| Curriculum Preschool is a time for building and strengthening mental, physical and social skills necessary for the transition to elementary education. For many, preschool is the first exposure to a group learning environment. I will introduce the basic skills needed to function in a group setting. We will learn how to listen carefully, follow instructions, take turns, share, respect each other and be patient. These skills will be taught through fun exercises daily.
We will also work on developing fine motor skills through weekly theme related activities. These activities will be educationally based and include skill building with letters, numbers, colors, shapes, early science concepts, sensory development, social studies and arts/crafts. Some projects will be directive, again reinforcing the importance of following instructions, others will offer the opportunity for your child to express their creativity. | |

| I believe that preschoolers learn best through individual discovery. It is very important for children to have time to explore their individual interests at their own pace. “Free Play” is an open center time in which each child can choose to play with blocks, trains, puzzles, games, sensory table objects, as well as various dramatic play activities such as dress up, grocery store, kitchen, baby dolls, construction, and puppet theatre. The library is also always open for anyone who needs a little rest, relaxation or quite time with a book. Time is also scheduled, each day, for large motor skill development on the playground (weather permited) and during music/movement. On the playground, the children can climb, slide, swing, run, play basketball and dig in the sandbox. During music/movement time, we may play a physical game (such as leap frog or duck, duck, goose), sing songs, play music instruments or have have fun with our 6 foot parachute. | |
